Special Performance by Penn Veterinary Alumnae and Jazz Singer Ava Logan!
For all our VMD's who will be in Chicago attending the AVMA Annual Convention or for those who reside in Chicago - you won't want to miss our Alumni Reception!
Our exciting location will get you out of the convention center to experience a bit of Chicago history. Just a few minute walk or a two minute cab ride, the Glessner House Museum is a National Historic Landmark. Glessner House was designed by noted American architect Henry Hobson Richardson and completed in 1887. It remains an internationally-known architectural treasure in Chicago. A radical departure from traditional Victorian architecture, the structure served as an inspiration to the young Frank Lloyd Wright and helped redefine domestic architecture. Tours of the house will be available.
Come enjoy delicious food and drinks in the Coach House and Courtyard while enjoying a wonderful
performance by Penn Veterinary alumnae and jazz singer, Ava Logan. At Penn, Logan acquired her VMD, leading to a career as a research specialist in the field of veterinary medicine - not your usual background for a jazz artist, to say the least. Logan hasn't been stingy in sharing her gift. In addition to performing in clubs and concert halls in Chicago, Los Angeles and Florida, she has taken her act to Paris and Rome and Moscow. She has performed one-woman tributes to Fitzgerald, Lena Horne and other favorites. In the process, she has acquired a devoted following that has lifted her into the ranks of must-hear Chicago jazz divas including Dee Alexander, Patricia Barber and Bobbi Wilsyn. You won't want to miss her performance.
The evening will also include free giveways, an update on the School and alumni programs, faculty and staff members in attendance, and much more. We hope to see you in Chicago!

Alumni Volunteer Opportunity - Supervise students through first spays & neuters
This volunteer opportunity is for graduates who are interested in helping to shape the way future veterinarians spay and neuter small animals. Volunteer veterinarians will come to the Philadelphia animal shelter on a Thursday and/or Friday and supervise students through some of their first spays and neuters on dogs. A nurse and first-year rotating intern from the University of Pennsylvania will be present to help the volunteer veterinarian supervise the student surgeries and take charge of all administrative and logistical work. Volunteers will be asked to be present at the Animal Care and Control Team headquarters at 111 West Hunting Park Avenue from 9 am through 3 pm on the days they are scheduled to volunteer. If interested, please contact Jeffrey Barnet at barnet@vet.upenn.edu.
