CPCR Lab for Veterinarians
Conducted by Dr. Daniel Fletcher
2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (3 CE hours)
Acute cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA) is a highly stressful condition to treat. Until recently, standardized veterinary guidelines and training have not been available to prepare veterinarians and technicians to deal with patients with CPA, likely leading to suboptimal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) attempts and outcomes. In this highly interactive lab, teams of participants will manage clinical scenarios using a high fidelity canine simulator with heart and lung sounds, pulses, and a simulated patient monitor. At the conclusion of each scenario, all attendees will participate in a debriefing session during which the application of the new Reassessment Campaign on Veterinary Resuscitation (RECOVER) CPR guidelines will be discussed. Principles of basic life support, advanced life support and team communication skills will be covered.
Space is limited to 20 registrants. Cost: $375 *
Dental Surgery: Tooth Extraction (Veterinarians) - Sold Out
Conducted by Dr. Alexander Reiter
2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (3 CE hours)
This lab will provide hands-on training for closed extraction of single- and two-rooted teeth. Participants will also learn flap techniques for open extraction of canine and large multi-rooted teeth, including tension-free closure of extraction sites. Instrument choices, safe use of power equipment and proper bur selection will be reviewed.
Space is limited to 12 registrants. Cost: $375 *
Exotic Companion Animal CPR Laboratory (Veterinarians)
Conducted by Dr. LaToya Latney
2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (3 CE hours)
This lab will review basic principles of stabilizing exotic species with a focus on the species-specific principles of fluid therapy and supportive care, fluid administration techniques, venopuncture landmarks, wound stabilization and bandaging techniques, intravenous, urinary and intraosseous catheter placement, crop feeding, esophagostomy tube placement and air sac cannula placement. The first hour will be an introductory overview and then participants will have the opportunity to practice the aforementioned techniques at four stations (reptile, small mammal + rabbit, ferret, bird) on cadaver animals in 30-minute intervals with the guided assistance of ECAMS clinicians. References will be sent to participants prior to the lab.
Space is limited to 15 registrants. Cost: $375 *
