[November 5, 2010; Kennett Square, PA] –On Tuesday, December 7th, New Bolton Center will present Team Anesthesia: Advancing Patient Care and Pain Management at New Bolton Center. The lecture is part of the First Tuesdays Lecture Series at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine at New Bolton Center. The series offers the public open lectures on equine topics, at no charge, the first Tuesday of each month.

The December 7th lecture will be presented by Kirsten Wegner DVM, Assistant Professor of Anesthesia at New Bolton Center. Dr. Wegner has dedicated her career to investigating pain management in dogs, cats and horses. On December 7th her presentation will focus on cutting-edge anesthetic care for equine patients requiring advanced surgical, medical and imaging procedures. “The faculty, residents and nurses of Team Anesthesia have facilitated fantastic new methods of providing the safest anesthesia possible for all patients from the new born foal to the 2000-pound draft horse,” says Dr. Wegner. “Advances in pain management based in part on in-progress research at New Bolton Center ensure that our patients are as comfortable as possible, too.”

In the first six months that the series has been offered, attendance at First Tuesday lectures has been steadily increasing, reflecting the program’s growing popularity with the local equine community. Future First Tuesday Lectures include issues focusing on lameness, wound care, diagnostic tools and EPM. The series of one hour lectures covers a wide range of veterinary subjects, each one of relevance to the horse owner and caregiver. All are presented by New Bolton clinicians with expertise in the subject.
