New Bolton Center Dress Requirements - All Students
All students are required to wear coveralls and rubber mid-calf boots at New Bolton Center. This applies to all students including first year course laboratories, third year Large Animal Block, and senior year clinical rotations.
Coveralls should be either tan or brown (this is also the required color when you are on clinical rotations). If you already own coveralls in a different color, you need not buy new ones just for Large Animal Block, however, the correct color will be necessary as part of the dress code for clinical rotations.
Rubber mid-calf over-the-shoe boots are also mandatory.
Coveralls:
Coveralls may be purchased at a uniform store or on the Internet.
You may wear either short-sleeved or long-sleeved coveralls. Short-sleeved coveralls are recommended especially when doing bovine rectal exams.
In Philadelphia you may purchase coveralls from Central Uniforms located at Central Uniforms is located at 837 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia. Phone: 215-413-0833. Their hours are Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Central Uniforms carries Dickies Brand short-sleeved coveralls and Red Kap long-sleeved coveralls.
If your size is not in stock, they can be ordered for you.
It is easy for clothes to become soiled when working with large animals. As students must maintain a neat appearance at New Bolton, it is a good idea to have more than one pair of coveralls.
Boots:
You will need to have a pair of mid-calf rubber boots - boots that only cover ankles are not acceptable. In addition to the obvious concern of protecting your shoes or sneakers, one of the reasons for requiring rubber boots is for increased biosafety as rubber boots can be easily disinfected.
The only acceptable boot is made by Tingley (see: http://www.tingleyrubber.com). The recommended boot is the over-the-shoe product - Rubber 10" Workboot - 1400 Style.
