The graduation ceremony lasts approximately 1½ hours and is followed by a reception.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Announcements along with mailing envelopes will be available from the Office of Student Affairs or from the Office of Clinical Studies-NBC, Widener Large Animal Hospital of New Bolton Center April 1. You may have as many announcements as you wish.
TICKETS:
Due to limited seating in the Zellerbach Theatre, each guest invited must have a ticket. Admission to the Ceremony will be by ticket only. Each graduating student is entitiled to seven (7) tickets. Tickets will not be required for graduating students who are marching and will be seated on stage. Tickets will be available for pick up from the Office of Student Affairs. Tickets must be picked up in person or you may have a classmate pick them up for you as long as you provide permission in writing (either paper or email).
CAPS AND GOWNS:
All graduates taking part in the ceremony are required to wear academic regalia. Academic regalia is rented from the University Bookstore. If you don't order a cap and gown, you can't march at graduation. The attire you need to order is: Gown - the gown will have grey chevrons and grey stripes on the sleeves. This is only for candidates receiving the Veterinary Degree; Cap; Hood - the hood will be maroon and blue; Tassel.
Order forms will be distributed to all of your mailboxes in the Ryan VHUP. The degree to be conferred (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) will be pre-checked on the order form. There will also order forms in the Student Affairs Office and in the Clinical Studies-NBC Office at New Bolton Center.

Please make sure your cap and gown fit well before Commencement day.
Academic regalia will be creased, so it is recommended that you press the gown before Commencement.
THE CEREMONY:
Arrival and Gowning:
It is essential that members of the Class of 2011 arrive at the Zellerbach no later than 1:30 PM and that you are dressed in academic attire and ready to for the academic procession by 2:15 PM. A room on the balcony level of Annenberg has been reserved for gowning and line formation. Take the stairway to the second floor and look for the door marked "GRADUATES."
Faculty members will be available to help you dress and answer individual questions.
You will be sitting on the stage. LOOK FOR YOUR NAME ON THE CHAIRS. A program will be placed on each chair. As it is usually warm on stage, it is suggested that you wear light-weight clothing , however you must dress appropriately - no jeans or sneakers.
Do not wear your hood into the theater - CARRY IT OVER YOUR ARM.
Diploma Presentation:
When your name is read for diploma presentation, walk to the front of the stage. The floor will be marked with an "X." Please stand on the X. A faculty member will take the hood from you and place it over your head. Then proceed to center stage where Dean Hendricks will hand you your diploma and shake hands. Take the diploma in your left hand to enable you to shake hands with your right!
Return to your seat.
SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR GUESTS:
If you have friends or family who require wheelchair or handicap arrangements, you must inform the Office of Student Affairs.
Please note that wheelchairs are NOT provided. Please make sure your guest provides his/her own wheelchair. Because of the number of people on campus for Commencement, special parking arrangements are not available. You should plan to have your guest dropped off on Walnut Street by the red Annenberg flag poles.
DIPLOMA NAME:
Diplomas are produced by the University's Office of the Secretary. Information from the Office of Student Affairs will be sent to all graduating seniors in late fall requesting the exact spelling of your first, middle, and last names. Deadline is January 31, 2011.
DIPLOMA PRESENTATION:
If you have a parent or grandparent who is a veterinarian or a member of the University of Pennsylvania faculty, he/she can award your diploma rather than the Dean. Please be certain to provide the Office of Student Affairs with the following information (in writing) no later than March 30: 1) Name, 2) Relationship, 3) Degree and Year of Degree of the presenting relative, and 4) Academic Title.
You must also rent a cap and gown for him/her through the University Bookstore - follow the same ordering instructions and form used for student academic regalia (see above)
The family member should arrive with you no later than 1:30 PM for gowning.
ATTENDANCE:
If you are unable to attend the diploma ceremony at Zellerbach, please inform the Office of Student Affairs so that arrangements may be made for you to receive your diploma. Diplomas will not be awarded prior to graduation.
PARKING:
Parking will be difficult! We suggest you car pool and arrive on campus as early as possible, or use public transportation, taxi or limousine service.

All graduates, regardless of School affiliation, are invited to participate in the University's Commencement. Brochures providing additional information will be distributed to your mailboxes.
Announcements for the University commencement will be available after April 1, 2008 at the front desk of the Rosenthal Building or from Office of Clinical Studies at New Bolton Center. These invitations are supplied to students for mailing for family and friends. Tickets are not required for admission to the University's commencement ceremony.
