Pathologist, Large Animal Anatomic Pathology
The Department of Pathobiology, University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for a position in Anatomic Pathology at its New Bolton Center campus located in rural Chester County, Pennsylvania close to Philadelphia and Wilmington, Delaware. The individual will have primary responsibility in diagnostic pathology, which will entail necropsy and surgical pathology duty and active involvement in teaching pathology residents and veterinary students. There will be an opportunity for the investigation of spontaneous diseases of large animals and collaboration with other diagnostic specialists in avian medicine and pathology, microbiology, and toxicology. There is an opportunity to interact with clinical and basic scientists in Animal Health and Productivity, Equine Sports Medicine and Imaging, and Infectious Disease and Food Safety, all located at New Bolton Center. There is also an opportunity for collaboration with faculty on the University of Pennsylvania campus in Philadelphia, especially in the Department of Pathobiology, Philadelphia. Applicants should have a DVM/VMD or equivalent degree and be board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists or eligible to sit for the ACVP boards. Salary and rank of appointment will be commensurate with the applicant’s training and experience. Applications are invited for a position as a Research Associate to work on the immunopathognesis oftoxoplasmic encephalitis. The candidate needs to have a Ph.D. and 4-5 years ofpost-doctoral experience. They should also be versed in cell culture, multi-color flow cytometry, working with mouse models oftoxoplasmosis, and breeding mice combined with the use of PCR for geneotyping. Considerable time will be devoted to the separation and analysis of lymphocyte populations from the brains of infected mice and the applicant needs to have experience with the analysis of cytokine production and a strong general knowledge of cytokine biology. As a part of these studies the applicant needs to be able to isolate and culture different glial cell populations and assay their ability to present antigen as well as control the replication of this intracellular parasite. Additional experience with two photon microscopy is essential. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
