Giving Annually: The Penn Vet Annual Fund
A top fundraising priority, the Annual Fund supports Penn Vet's commitment to innovative educational programs to train veterinarians and biomedical scientists; to pioneering research and the discovery of new knowledge in the basic and applied sciences; and to maintaining a strong commitment to specialized veterinary medical care and service. Here are some ways your gift to the Penn Vet Annual Fund can help:
United Way and Penn Vet
Any corporation in the Philadelphia area that participates in a United Way workplace campaign will have the opportunity to designate funds to Penn Vet. Choose United Way ID number 50178 on your company-specific form. If you are an employee of the University of Pennsylvania, you can take part in Penn's Way by visiting http://www.upenn.edu/pennsway, and search for "50178" or "University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine".
Matching Gifts
Matching gifts can double or even triple your gift to the School! If you have already made a gift or are about to make one, please visit the University of Pennsylvania Matching Gifts Database to see if your and/or your spouse's employer has a corporate matching gift program. If you don't find a listing, please contact your human resources department. Don't forget, too, that many employers will match the gifts of their nonemployee directors, retired employees, and the spouses, widows, or widowers of retired employees.
Gifts "In Memory Of" or "In Honor Of"
Giving a gift in memory/honor of a relative, veterinarian, friend or pet adds special meaning to your contribution. Gifts to any Penn Vet fund can be made "in memory of" or "in honor of" a special person or animal, thereby adding another meaningful dimension to the contribution.
The Penn Vet Legacy Paver Program: Honoring Special Friends and Loved Ones
A Legacy gift is a living reminder left by individuals and/or families that will continue to support the causes they believe in for years to come. Penn Vet offers a unique way to commemorate family, friends, of special companions through the Penn Vet Paver Program. Learn more about how you can participate in the Penn Vet Legacy Program.
Transferring Assets
Owners of appreciated assets can obtain substantial tax benefits by transferring those assets directly to the School. First, you will receive an income tax deduction equal to the fair market value of the stock on the effective date of their gift. In addition, you avoid capital gains tax on the transfer. This will help to ensure both timely receipt and appropriate allocation for the gift.
Securities
For more information, including an example of the benefits of making a gift of appreciated securities, visit Penn's Office of Gift Planning web page on Outright Gifts. For transfer instructions, please contact Penn's Office of the Treasurer at 215.898.7254 or at gifts@pobox.upenn.edu.
