Over the years, the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine has received generous support from donors who have made gifts through a variety of planned giving programs. These gifts have been designated by donors for a variety of purposes, including to fund scholarships, professorships, and cutting-edge research at the School.
Planned gifts are flexible, tax-advantaged arrangements that enable donors to make substantial gifts in ways that complement their personal financial planning. They can be designed to generate life-long income, obtain significant income tax deductions and reduce or eliminate estate taxes. Planned gifts can also be a means of converting low-yielding assets into a higher income stream at a reduced capital gains cost.
Penn's Office of Gift Planning offers a variety of life income arrangements including charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trust. Planning staff can also help donors tailor bequests and structure gifts of life insurance and other assets for the benefit of the School.
Gifts made by will are one of the School's most important sources of individual support. Bequests can be made in the form of a specific gift of cash or property, or a percentage of the remainder of an estate. The latter allows more flexibility in planning. We are pleased to provide this sample wording for bequests to the School of Veterinary Medicine for you and your legal adviser:
I give, devise, and bequeath to the Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania, a nonprofit corporation organized and existing under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the sum of $__________ (or _____% of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate) to be used for the unrestricted purposes (or for a specific program of your choosing) of the School of Veterinary Medicine.
Participation in any of Penn’s planned giving programs also bestows the benefits of membership in the Veterinary Heritage Circle of The Charles Custis Harrison Society. Those benefits include annual luncheons, seminars and the University’s planned giving newsletter, Partners in Penn’s Future.
Gift Planning staff are always willing to meet with donors and their financial advisors to design the most advantageous ways of giving to the School. For more information, please visit their web site or call toll-free at (800) 223-8236.
