Information for Referring Vets about the Oncology Service
Consultations:
The Oncology Service is available for consultations Monday through Friday during normal business hours. The phone number is 215-898-4805, then select 2. On the message, please leave the clinician and veterinary hospital names, phone number and best time for us to call back, the name of the patient, the patient’s diagnosis, and your questions. Messages are checked throughout the day and every attempt is made to return calls within 24 hours.
Referrals:
The Oncology Service schedules new appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Although we are not a referral-only service, we do require that patients have a diagnosis of cancer (confirmed by cytology or histopathology) in order to make an appointment with our service. If you have a patient without a confirmed diagnosis that you would like to refer to our service, please call us at 215-898-4805 for a consultation regarding the case. Recheck appointments are scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Prior to the patient’s scheduled new appointment, an Oncology nurse will contact your practice asking for pertinent information (including the biopsy or cytology report and the results of blood work and other recent diagnostic tests) about the patient to be faxed to us at 215-573-6049. In addition, it is helpful if owners bring any imaging that has been performed on their pet with them to the appointment. It is not necessary for the referring veterinarian to contact the appointment desk—clients can call them directly to make appointments.
