Basil
Basil was diagnosed with megaesophogus. Something was blocking food from reaching his stomach. He came to the Ryan Veterinary Hospital and our doctors found that an aortic blood vessel was constricting his esophagus.

Trichuris Cells

Trichuris, or whipworms, commonly infect the large intestine of dogs and can be treated by prescription.

Student Wet Lab
This group of third-year students is learning some basic techniques used in minimally invasive surgical procedures. By only viewing what's on the screen, they must manipulate a variety of tiny objects with graspers inside of the box.

Poultry Biosecurity
Third-year students in Tyveck suits learn about poultry biosecurity. Penn Vet is part of Pennsylvania's Animal Diagnostic Laboratory System (PADLS), to help ensure food safety and herd health for the Commonwealth.

Canine Retina
Multifocal patches of rhodopsin mislocalization (in green) in the retina of a female dog that is a carrier of a mutation in the RPGR gene.
Penn Vet and Scheie researchers have used gene therapy to find a cure for retinitis pigmentosa in dogs. Read more about this breakthrough here>>

Marshak Dairy
Penn Vet has a fully functioning dairy located at New Bolton Center. The Marshak Dairy's herd has approximately 200 milking cows that produce about 1500 gallons of milk a day, which is sold to Land-O-Lakes. Penn Vet students learn about cow health care, preventive medicine, nutrition and food safety.

Penn Vet held it's fourth annual day of service for Martin Luther King Day by providing a free pet vaccination and wellness clinic for under-served Philadelphia communities.
