
Diablo, the New Castle County, Delaware police dog, has undergone surgery here at the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital for two gunshot wounds to his left hind leg and left shoulder. After a lengthy surgery Diablo is in stable condition and is resting comfortably.

Dr. Elaine Holmes, DVM, Diablo's surgeon
Dr. Holmes was raised in Algonac, MI. She received her Bachelors of Science in Biology from Ohio Northern University. She attended veterinary school at Michigan State University, where she received her DVM and discovered her passion for surgery. Dr. Holmes completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Texas A&M University. She is currently in the second year of her surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania.
During her time at Penn Vet, her clinical interests have been broad and range from minimally invasive procedures and interventional radiology, to bone cancer, and open fracture management and terminal ballistics.
