Volunteer Services

The Emergency Service of the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital is a 24-hour service with 25 doctors, 20 nurses, fourth-year vet students and 24-hour receptionists. It is one of the largest academic veterinary Emergency Services in the world with more than 13,000 cases per year. The spectrum of cases that are seen include trauma and surgical and medical emergencies.
Our volunteer program is integral to our service. This program has been in place for 20 years and more than 500 people have participated. The background of these people ranges from accountant to graphic artist to military veteran to pre-vet student. Our volunteers are essential to the functioning of our Emergency Service, and their responsibilities include patient restraint, stocking and cleaning. We take this program seriously and we depend on our volunteers who have elected to work with us. The volunteer shifts are four-hour blocks from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. seven days a week.
If you are interested in participating in our volunteer program, please access the application and welcome letter below. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
