Oncology

The Oncology Service, one of the nation's busiest, treats primarily cats and dogs using both traditional treatments (chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery) and more innovative approaches, such as interventional radiology, photodynamic therapy and immunotherapy. Oncology staff perform clinical research and run clinical trials to benefit patients, and collaborate extensively with researchers in the Penn and global oncology community to develop safer and more effective treatments to benefit both veterinary and human patients. The patient’s quality of life is of paramount importance, and staff strive to achieve not just prolongation of life through treatment but improvement in quality of life and alleviation of suffering.
