Clinical Service

The Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service at the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital offers a full range of dental and oral surgical diagnostic and treatment
procedures. The vast majority of procedures are performed under general anesthesia, and all patients receive a comprehensive physical examination including diagnostic tests as necessary prior to anesthesia.
The clinical service can be divided into three areas:
- Scheduled appointments
- Emergency cases
- Consultations within the hospital
Scheduled appointments for new patients and reexaminations are usually on Monday and Wednesday mornings. For patients admitted to the hospital, treatment under anesthesia is performed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please call (215) 746-VETS or (215) 746-8387 for an appointment.
Emergency cases admitted through our Emergency Service (215-746-V911 or 215-746-8911) receive primary attention and will undergo immediate treatment as feasible.
Consultations within the hospital are performed at the request of fellow clinicians that drop a green consultation form into the bin in front of the third-floor Dentistry and Oral Surgery Office (#3113) or hand it to the duty resident or clinician. The Dentistry and Oral Surgery Service staff will respond to all requests as soon as the clinical/surgical schedule allows (usually within hours). On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, a specific resident is assigned to consultation duty (weekend/holiday coverage). To request an after-hours consultation during the week (Monday through Thursday) the resident who is on-call the next weekend should be contacted.
