pillow recovering The Emergency Service and Intensive Care Unit function as advanced trauma/emergency and intensive care treatment and diagnostic centers, akin to their counterparts in human hospitals. They are staffed by faculty and staff who are board-certified in the field of emergency and critical care, specially trained nurses, as well as residents and interns seeking advanced training following veterinary schooling.

The Emergency Service and Intensive Care Unit are among the busiest centers of their type in the world, with annual caseloads of 13,000 and 1,200, respectively. As an advanced trauma and diagnostic center, the service functions like a human emergency unit.

The two areas operate 24 hours per day, 365 days per year to provide care for animals referred from outside veterinarians as well as those animals who become ill at any time of day whose owners seek emergency care. Our emergency service is fully functional throughout the day with emergency surgery available around the clock.

Residents and interns who want to specialize in critical care come here to study because of the expertise and large caseload.
