Mission
Our goal is to furnish our patients with the finest in both emergency and routine veterinary care for all species of large animals. Our facility is staffed with veterinarians who are recognized as leaders in their field and the Widener Hospital is recognized as a world leader in the diagnosis and treatment of the diseases of large animals.
History
Located on about 700 acres in pastoral Chester County, Penn Vet’s New Bolton Campus offers some of the finest veterinary services available anywhere. The George D. Widener Hospital for Large Animals, opened in 1964, has become the premier equine clinic in North America. With a long history of excellence, it enjoys one of the largest caseloads of any academic large animal hospital in the country. The hospital provides both inpatient and outpatient services. Each year, Widener accommodates more than 6,000 patient visits, providing a standard of care that is internationally renowned.
The hospital’s William Boucher Field Service ambulatory program makes more than 19,000 patient visits annually. Widener provides comprehensive veterinary treatment for horses, cattle, camelids, pigs, goats, sheep and other large animals.
