September 11th - We Remember
Today we remember those who lost their lives on 9/11. We also observe the first anniversary of the opening of the Penn Vet Working Dog Center - a living tribute to the Search & Rescue dogs and their handlers who served at the World Trade Center, Pentagon & Staten Island Fresh Kills Landfill. We strive daily to honor the bravery and work of those dogs. We remember.
Penn Vet and the Pennsylvania Center for Dairy Excellence today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to formally recognize their partnership to work together to help the state’s dairy industry strengthen, grow and increase profitability. The memorandum was signed by Penn Vet Dean Joan Hendricks and Center for Dairy Excellence Executive Director John Frey.

Speakers also included George Greig, Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture; David Galligan, VMD, MBA, Director of Penn Vet's Center for Animal Health and Productivity at New Bolton Center; Walt Moore, owner of Walmoore Holsteins Inc., a large dairy farm and milk transport company in Chester County; and Tim Kurtz, owner of Kurtland Farms in Elverson, PA.

St. Louis, Missouri, Nestle Purina PetCare Company (NPPC) is voluntarily recalling a limited number of 3.5-pound bags of its Purina ONE beyOnd Our White Meat Chicken and Whole Barley Recipe Adult Dry Dog Food from a single production run and shipped to retail customers in the United States. This is being done because one bag of the product was found to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Since the summer of 2006 when Barbaro was a patient at New Bolton Center, the Fans of Barbaro have marked the birthday of Dr. Dean Richardson, who cared for the famous racehorse. Donated by the Fans of Barbaro, Kennett Florist brought cake, ice cream and flowers for the New Bolton Center staff, and dozens of carrots and apples for the horses. Happy birthday, Dr. Richardson!

Pennsylvania State Reps. Warren Kampf and Chris Ross and staff members took a tour of Penn Vet’s New Bolton Center last week. Dr. Gary Althouse, Chairman of Clinical Studies, led the tour through several of the 70 buildings in operation on the nearly 700 acre campus. Rep. Kampf was particularly interested in research, and asked many questions during a lunch with Dr. Althouse and other veterinary specialists.

P&G Voluntarily Recalls Limited Quantity of Dry Pet Food Due to Possible Health Risk

The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) has voluntarily recalled specific lots of dry pet food because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. These lots were distributed in the United States and represent roughly one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) of annual production.
