Laminitis, a debilitating and horribly painful disease of the hoof, is a silent killer that affects horses around the globe. Hundreds of horses will be diagnosed with this disease each day.
Right here at the Penn Veterinary School of Medicine we are fighting laminitis through new and ongoing research to develop preventative and therapeutic management strategies. This work builds upon Penn Vet's extensive and renown reputation for stem cell research and equine care. However, the technology and resources required to advance the knowledge in this area are expensive.
Both the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) list laminitis, also known as founder, as the priority area for equine research and funding.
Substantial progress can be made within the next five years but it will take a working research budget of $10 million. You can help us wage the war against laminitis with your generous donation.
