Penn Vet MASH Tent
at Alumni Weekend

As part of the University of Pennsylvania ’s Alumni Weekend 2007 on Saturday, May 12, 2007 , Penn Vet alumni joined with faculty, students and staff at the well-known MASH TENT to stitch "injured stuffed animals" for children participating at the University’s QUAKERKIDS PARTY at Houston Hall.

Young “surgeons” were invited to gown-up, stitch-up, and heal pre-injured stuffed patients. Our many thanks to our preceptors for saving a lot of "stuffed" lives and inspiring a lot of young minds – all without anesthesia or blood-loss!

Nurse Kathy Ippolito” ( Ryan Veterinary Hospital administration) who ensured that all "junior surgeons" were appropriately scrubbed-up and in good humor before entering the operating room.

Dr. Daniella Yaakov (Special Species Resident) & Dr. Cindy Otto (Faculty) for their expertise in helping the clients to calmly triage their patients' "boo-boos" and discuss differential diagnosis.

Dr. Jeleen Briscoe (faculty – Special Species) for serving as a gracious Chief of Surgery even though her regular patients are not so "stuffed" or fuzzy.

Dr. Bob Stewart, Sr. (alumnus) who fearlessly threaded at least a hundred needles for very tiny fingers, and ensured appropriate wound closure before bandaging.

Dr. Caleb Frankel, Dr. Heather Fowler, Dr. Carolyn Gates and Dr. Kelly Harrigan (students), along with Dr. Michelle Traverse (Ryan Veterinary Hospital nurse) and Dr. Minh (visiting faculty) whose skill, grace, patience and extra knowledge of making ribbon-collars made every client happy!

Approximately 250 lives were saved, and countless PENN VET CLASS OF 2027 future students were inspired!
