Welcome to PennGen Laboratories.

 

 

 

Please use our online submission form to submit all DNA samples.

PennGen is a genetic testing facility operated through the Section of Medical Genetics at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. It is a collection of labs that coordinate as a not-for-profit unit, offering routine testing for a variety of genetic diseases, metabolic screening for inborn errors of metabolism, and a number of other diagnostic genetic services. PennGen also engages in research to uncover the genetic basis of a wide range of diseases in all types of animals from domestic pets to zoo animals and exotic wildlife.

The School of Veterinary Medicine, and PennGen have both had website makeovers. Please update your bookmarks, as they may no longer point to the right place.

Over the years we have had a variety of different submission forms, mailing addresses, price lists etc. Some of these are still hosted on other sites, or have been saved on computers, photocopies made and paper versions kept on file. We are working on getting these external references changed and updated – please do not use forms that are found anywhere other than on the PennGen site.*

Also, please note that we are now only accepting samples for DNA Testing, Fanconi, and Metabolic Screening that have been submitted using our online forms.



* As we have an ongoing research project into cystinuria in the Mastiff, Urine Cystinuria forms downloaded from the MCOA website are still being accepted.
