2016 Award of Merit Recipients

Deborah Patt V’78

patt-merit-award-2016

Dr. Patt is the daughter of Dr. John F. Patt, a 1952 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania. She joined her father's mixed animal practice in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania, worked as a full-time associate for twelve years and purchased the practice in 1990. During that period, the business evolved into a 100% small animal practice and was named "The Patt Veterinary Hospital".

A period of growth followed, during which a housecall service, additional associates, and more support staff were added. In 1997, a catastrophic fire destroyed the hospital. While a new hospital was being built in another location, the practice continued -- first in the family's home, then in a temporary, double-wide trailer. In 1999, the new Patt Veterinary Hospital officially opened its doors and has grown to employ four doctors and fifteen support staff.

She has given back to her community, especially encouraging young women to pursue higher education in the life sciences. In addition to several scholarships, she has mentored many of her employees to achieve success in various fields, including veterinary medicine.

Sheldon Gerstenfeld V’68
