Physiology

The Laboratory of Physiology provides two courses for the curriculum. Animal Physiology is a first-year core course. Functional systems at the organ level are studied in detail. Emphasis is placed upon regulatory mechanisms that act to maintain homeostasis. Interrelations between systems culminating in the integrated organism are discussed. Mammals and birds of veterinary interest are given special attention. Cardiovascular Physiology is a third-year elective course. Current topics in cardiovascular physiology are considered. The course does not involve clinical diagnosis per se. However, it is intended to providing explanations, insights and mechanisms that will aid in analyzing features of cardiovascular disease from the perspective of fundamental principles.

The faculty are practicing scientists in Physiology, Cell Biology and Molecular Biology.
