Bovine Herd Health

Housed under the Center for Animal Health and Productivity (CAHP), Penn Vet’s Bovine Herd Health team’s primary focus is to take care of Pennsylvania’s dairy and beef farm families, and their farm businesses.

Instead of focusing on the traditional treatment of individual sick animals, Penn Vet’s Bovine Herd Health experts specialize in assessing the ‘economic health’ of a farm’s entire herd – enhancing animal wellness and productivity while optimizing on-farm profitability and economic sustainability.

In addition, our clinical health experts offer regional, on-farm care of small ruminant animals such as goats and sheep.

  • On-Farm Outreach Services

Whether it’s troubleshooting a pressing herd health issue or working as part of a farm profit team, Penn Vet’s Bovine Herd Health experts use a holistic approach to enhance the economic sustainability and success of dairy and beef farm businesses.

Combining unique expertise in nutrition, reproduction, and health economics, our experts are regularly available to provide on-farm outreach support in the following areas:

    • Herd Health and Productivity
    • Nutrition Evaluation and Formulation
    • Milk Quality Improvement
    • Health Record Management
    • Farm Nutrient Management
    • Disease Surveillance and Management
    • Reproductive Health
    • Genomics

Penn Vet’s Bovine Herd Health experts will work directly with producers as well as the other members of a farm’s support system, including farm veterinarians, extension agents, third-party nutrition consultants, and financial lenders.
