Veterinary Clinical Investigation Center (VCIC)

Veterinary Clinical Investigations CenterThe Veterinary Clinical Investigations Center (VCIC) supports the diverse clinical research missions of the Matthew J. Ryan Small Animal Veterinary Hospital and the New Bolton Center Large Animal Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The mission of the VCIC is to promote and advance veterinary medicine, by coordinating and efficiently implementing high quality clinical studies designed to identify novel approaches to disease diagnosis, management, and prevention.

The VCIC staff is comprised of veterinarians with advanced training in epidemiology and clinical trial design who assist and guide principal investigators through the process of protocol development and study design as well as veterinary clinical research nurses who are responsible for providing high quality patient care as well as data collection and recruitment for our various studies.

The VCIC collaborates with institutions including the School of Medicine at Penn, the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Investigational Drug Service at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.  PennVet is also part of The Comparative Oncology Trials Consortium, an active network of twenty academic comparative oncology centers centrally managed by the NIH-NCI Center for Cancer Research's Comparative Oncology Program.
