Veterinary School Security Policy
On the Philadelphia Vet campus, all perimeter doors except the main entrance of the Rosenthal Building, the Ryan Veterinary Hospital, and the Hill Pavilion are kept locked twenty-four hours. Some doors of the School, the Hill Pavilion, and Ryan Veterinary Hospital , are equipped with electronic door access and monitoring systems. At certain locations there are PennCard reader access modules, cameras and electronic monitoring systems. Doors with card readers are accessible twenty-four hours a day with your student ID card (PennCard). Slide your card vertically down through the reader with the magnetic stripe facing the right. These areas are:
1. The main entrance of
the Rosenthal Building on 38th Street.
2. The rear or main stairwell entrance of the Rosenthal Building.
3. The basement entrance of the Rosenthal Building near the Student
Lounge.
4. The glass canopy entry to the basement of Ryan VHUP.
5. The loading dock entry to Ryan VHUP.
6. The main and side entrance to the Hill Pavilion.
We also have twenty-four
hour a day security guard coverage at the main
Ryan Veterinary Hospital entry. If you do not have your ID you
may enter at the VHUP entry with some form of picture ID, sign in
and receive and wear a Visitor Pass. This procedure is not to
be used if your PennCard is lost (please see below). In addition,
there is a receptionist or guard at the Rosenthal and Hill Pavilion
main entrances from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM, rules for entry same as
above. You may bring visitors in the School, but they must sign
in at a guard station, and wear a Visitor Pass. You must make
previous arrangements with your visitor to meet him/her in the main
entry of the building and sign that person in. Your visitor
will not be allowed entry without your physical presence.
You should wear your student PennCard when you are on the campus. You must wear your ID to enter and when you are in Vet buildings. You will be issued a holder that will allow you to display your PennCard. Replacement holders are available in the Office of Student Affairs, the Facilities Office, and in the Director's Office. If your PennCard does not operate the readers, please go to the Facilities Office and report the problem.
If you lose your PennCard, please 1) report the loss to the PennCard ID Center immediately so that the card is deactivated, 2) go to the PennCard ID Center for a replacement card. There is a $20.00 fee to replace a lost or stolen card. The Penn ID Center is located at 150 Franklin Building, 3451 Walnut Street (215-417-CARD).
Remember that safety and security is everyone's concern. Our campus security depends on everyone's cooperation. Do not ever prop doors open or let strangers enter our buildings. Always display your PennCard. If you have a security concern after hours, Penn Police is available at 8-7297. There are also RED EMERGENCY PHONES located 1) in the Rosenthal Building Basement and 2) on the 2nd Floor of VHUP outside of Room 2064 that connect directly to Penn Police by just picking up the receiver. Thank you for your cooperation.
