The field of cancer immunology aims to understand how the immune system plays a role in cancer development. It aims to identify new ways in which to enhance the activity of those cells which can recognize and eliminate tumor cells.
Dr. Oliver Garden and Dr. Jim Perry are seeking dogs with specific tumor types for a study on a group of immune regulatory cells that play an important role in cancer progression. Dogs with a diagnosis of either Mast Cell Tumor (MCT), B Cell Lymphoma, or Histocytic Sarcoma may be eligible to participate.
Dogs that qualify will have a sample of blood collected at each appointment, and a sample of the tumor will be collected when applicable.
Participating dogs will receive a financial contribution towards the costs of diagnosis and treatment at Penn Vet. Participation in this study could help us better understand how these cells function in canine cancer, with the potential to identify new cancer treatments!
