The Widener hospital, the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine's teaching hospital for large animals, is one of the busiest veterinary clinics in the nation.

Offering 24-hour emergency service as well as routine, outpatient, and intensive care, the Widener Hospital's diagnostic and treatment facilities include:

The C. Mahlon Kline Orthopedic and Rehabilitation Center
The Jeffords Treadmill Facility
The Connelly Intensive Care Unit/Graham French Neonatal Section
Nuclear medicine
The William B. Boucher field service
The Georgia and Philip Hofmann Research Center for Animal Reproduction
The farrier shop
Four hospital wards housing approximately 150 horses
Separate stalls for small ruminants
A ward for large ruminants
An isolation facility for infectious cases
A clinical laboratory, a pharmacy, and a post-mortem room for necropsies.
Ophthalmology services


All services are supported by diagnostic laboratories in pathology, toxicology, and microbiology.
