Penn Vet’s Boris Striepen, PhD, Earns William Trager Award

Penn Vet’s Boris Striepen, Professor of Pathobiology, has earned the American Committee of Molecular, Cellular and Immunoparasitology’s prestigious William Trager Award for Basic Parasitology. Striepen received his award on November 5th at the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene’s Annual Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland. Named in honor of malaria research pioneer Dr. William Trager, the annual award recognizes scientists who have made a fundamental breakthrough in basic parasitology that allows for new areas of investigation.

Training the Next Generation

Penn Vet has long been recognized for its pursuit of excellence in education and training. While Exotics medicine is highly specialized, Ryan Hospital’s Exotics service is busy and robust, providing important exposure to students during their clinical rotations. Fourth-year students with a strong interest in Exotics medicine can take additional Exotics rotations as electives.

Penn Vet to Host Annual Conference of Veterinary Colleagues from Across the Country

Penn Vet will host the 117th Penn Annual Conference from September 27-28, 2017, in Wilmington, DE. The event offers continuing education credit for small- and large-animal veterinarians and technicians from across the country. The conference is one of the largest gatherings of veterinary colleagues, alumni, and friends in the region.

Dr. Oliver Garden Wins International Canine Health Award for Outstanding Clinical Work and Research

Professor Oliver Garden, who recently left the UK to take up a prestigious position at the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet), has won an international award as part of one of the largest and most distinguished veterinary awards in the world, the International Canine Health Awards. The award was given to Oliver in recognition of his tireless work as a small animal internist and immunologist.

Penn Vet Establishes the Ralph L. Brinster President’s Distinguished Professorship in Honor of National Medal of Science Laureate

Through the generosity of Henrietta Alexander, Penn Vet will establish the Ralph L. Brinster President’s Distinguished Professorship in honor of Dr. Ralph Brinster, renowned faculty member, scientist, and National Medal of Science laureate. The Professorship will allow Penn Vet to recruit a faculty member who will contribute to the preeminence of the School and University.

Molly Klores, Brianna Parsons, Corey Spies, and Talia Wong received Penn Vet’s prestigious Student Inspiration Awards for 2017. Launched in 2008, the award is presented annually to Penn Vet students who demonstrate the potential to significantly advance the frontiers of veterinary medicine and expand the profession’s impact on the wellbeing of animals and society. Dr. Michael Mison Named Director and Chief Medical Officer of Penn Vet’s Ryan Hospital

The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet) announces the appointment of Dr. Michael Mison, DVM, to Ryan Hospital Director and Chief Medical Officer. Mison also will continue in his role as Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery.
