As the threat of COVID-19 evolves, we want to assure you that we are constantly evaluating safety for our community. To protect the health of our employees, our students and our clients, we have made several adjustments to ensure safety for your upcoming visit to Ryan Hospital.
We continue to work closely with the University’s central operations, Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) guidelines to develop our strategies.
As of 7:30AM on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, the following client-facing changes will be in effect:
Upon Your Arrival:
For Clients With URGENT, Medically Necessary Appointments:
- A parking guard will meet you at the entrance of Penn Vet's parking lot to confirm your last name and your pet's name before directing you to a designated parking spot.
- The clinician overseeing your case will contact you via phone call when he/she is ready to see your pet.
- Once you receive this call, please be prepared to drive to the traffic circle in front of Ryan Hospital where you will be met by your clinician. At this time, our clinical care team will bring your pet into the hospital for examination. We will communicate diagnostic findings and treatment plans via cell phone.
For Emergency Service Arrivals
- A parking guard will meet you at the entrance of Penn Vet’s parking lot and direct you to the traffic circle in front of Ryan Hospital.
- Please remain in your car and call 215-573-5358 or 215-898-3152 to establish a plan.
- An Emergency Services team will collect medical history over the phone and then meet you by the car to evaluate your pet and/or bring your pet into the hospital for further evaluation or treatment.
- The clinician assigned to your pet will communicate with you via phone call about any diagnostic findings and to help you make treatment decisions.
Please note that our healthcare team will be wearing a mask and gloves and maintaining six (6) feet of social distancing to ensure safety for our teams and for you.
For Our Clients with Emergency Needs
PLEASE NOTE: We are only able to accommodate Medically Necessary Urgent and Emergency Patients at this time.
- Please call ahead (215-746-8911) to determine whether your pet needs to be seen and we will advise you on the best plan of action.
- If it is decided that your pet needs to be seen, please make every effort to find a healthy person to bring your pet to the hospital.
- We must prioritize based on true medically necessary needs, so please understand that, if you arrive without calling to discuss urgent or emergency needs, we may not be able to accommodate evaluation of your pet.
- If you, the client, have a fever/respiratory/flu-like symptoms, we require that you ask a healthy person to bring your pet to our hospital.
- Upon arrival to Penn Vet, please proceed to one of our parking lots and park.
- Please remain in your car and call 215-573-5358 or 215-898-3152. A Penn Vet clinician will retrieve your pet, and any medications your pet may require, to discharge to you.
- At this time, we are conducting any payments over the phone. Please have any necessary materials ready, such as credit card information and an appropriate email for confirmation details to be sent to.
- You will receive a call when your pet is in the lobby. At this time, you can drive to the entrance of the hospital to receive your pet. If you have a pet carrier, please give it to the personnel that greets you at the entrance.
For All Clients and Visitors
- Payment: At this time, we are conducting all payments over the phone. Please have any necessary materials ready, such as credit card information and an appropriate email for which we can send payment confirmation details.
- Discharge of Patients: You will receive a call when your pet is in the lobby. At this time, you may drive to the entrance of the hospital to receive your pet. If you have a pet carrier, please give it to the personnel that greets you at the entrance.
- No personal items can be retained with the pet while hospitalized, including blankets, toys, collars, leashes, etc.
- Please clean your carrier, leash, and collar as carefully as possible before arrival with an alcohol-based solution before your arrival.
- Please understand that, until further notice, we can no longer allow owners to visit their pets while they are in our hospital. For clients with animals who are critically ill or require a critical medical decision, please work directly with your clinician to make appropriate arrangements.
- As always, please continue to adhere to the CDC guidelines for personal health and hygiene. Please wash hands, keep a safe social-distancing (6ft) and observe our handshake-free hospital rules.
