Dean Hoffman's Message – June 4

Message from Dean Hoffman – Thursday, June 4, 2020

Dear Penn Vet Community,

Enclosed is a video where I have tried, as a male of white privilege, to briefly frame my views on racial injustice and the killing of George Floyd. And I’ve opened a dialogue on action items that I hope will continue for years to come.

I want to be clear, we do not - we will not - tolerate racism, violence, or inequity against communities of color, communities of orientation, communities of gender, or communities of faith. We will not, period.

What gives me some hope, is that the Penn Vet community is making several efforts now to improve diversity, inclusivity, equity, and climate in our community.  Below is a short list of our existing and new programs. We can start by strengthening and operationalizing our current activities, and grow from there.

Like the pandemic, the recent racial injustices feel like a turning point, where nothing will be the same. I hope for the black community, and for all communities of color, that we will see real change for the better this time. Let’s do our part to make that happen.

Take care of yourselves, and please take care of one another.

With gratitude,

Dean Andy Hoffman
