“We are excited to celebrate 30 years of bringing the community together,” said Wendy Weinstein, owner of Ground Zero Salons. “I am especially proud that, through this event, Ground Zero is continuing its longstanding tradition of giving back by supporting Penn Vet’s Shelter Medicine Program, which does so much for animals in need in our region.”
Established in 2006, Penn Vet’s Shelter Medicine Program offers consultative, educational, and veterinary support to regional shelters and residents of the Greater Philadelphia community. The program has a significant impact on how many homeless animals are given quality care and placed into permanent homes. In addition, the program provides interdisciplinary and authentic instruction to veterinary students through the lens of shelter medicine, by integrating best practices in educational techniques and research with community outreach, collaborative partnerships, and service learning.
This year, Penn Vet will debut a state-of-the-art, 40-foot mobile unit to offer advanced care for shelter animals and pets in at-risk communities and to serve as a real-world classroom for students and the community.
“With the mobile unit, we’ll be able to offer surgical and medical care for shelter animals,” said Dr. Brittany Watson, Director of Penn Vet’s Shelter Medicine Program. “In addition, we’ll be able to educate future veterinary students and provide outreach to schools and communities in the Philadelphia region. We are so grateful to Wendy for her support and look forward to expanding our impact in the year ahead.”
Music will be provided by the School of Rock house band, and DJ Phil Philmore.
