Description: Myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) is a common disease in older dogs. When MMVD becomes severe, a hormonal system known as RAAS (renin-angiotensin aldosterone system) becomes activated and this can have detrimental effects on the heart in the long-term.
We are currently conducting clinical trials of a new oral medication using plant-based encapsulation technology, which allows oral administration of drugs that would otherwise need to be given by injection.
This new drug might help reduce the detrimental effects of the RAAS hormonal system.
Requirements: In order to determine if your dog qualifies for the study, we can arrange a screening visit to PennVet, which includes an echocardiogram and blood sampling.
