Legacy Gifts & Planned Giving

Honor a Pet or Loved One with a Special Gift

Planned giving offers you the opportunity to honor a special pet or person in your life, gain peace of mind and security for you and your family, and support the School’s mission of teaching, healing, and scientific discovery.

  • Making a Gift in Your Will

One of the simplest ways to support Penn Vet is with a gift in your will. You can give a specific amount or a percentage of your estate. You can also direct your gift to an area of the School that is most meaningful to you, such as scholarship, research, or hospital support.
    Questions? Call us! 215-898-1480

  • Other Types of Long-Term Gifts

Planned gifts can be designed to generate life-long income, obtain significant income tax deductions, and reduce or eliminate estate taxes. They can be funded with gifts of cash, stock, retirement assets, life insurance, and real estate, and include:

    • Charitable Gift Annuities
    • Charitable Remainder Trusts
    • Charitable Lead Trusts

    Questions? Call us! 215-898-1480

  • The Veterinary Heritage Circle

By including the School in your long-term plans, you can become a member of the Veterinary Heritage Circle, the School’s membership society for planned giving donors, and the University’s Charles Custis Harrison Society.

Benefits of membership include an annual luncheon, invitations to special events and seminars, a subscription to Penn Vet’s Bellwether Magazine, and the University's gift planning newsletter, Key.

Most importantly, members benefit from knowing that their gift helps shape the future of veterinary medicine for the benefit of animals and humans alike.

Gift Planning staff are always willing to meet with donors and their financial advisors to discuss planned giving opportunities and to provide examples tailored to your particular situation and interests.

The Barbaro Fund – Make the Difference in the Lives of Horses

Barbaro before the DerbyA devastating injury at the Preakness Stakes, the second race in the Triple Crown, shattered famous Thoroughbred racehorse Barbaro's right hind leg and all hopes of the highest honor in the world of racing.

The injury brought this amazing equine athlete into the international limelight, allowing him to show the world that his heart was even bigger than could have been imagined.

Barbaro spent the next eight months at New Bolton Center where he endured multiple surgeries to fix three bones shattered into more than 20 fragments.

Miraculously, the fractures healed and Barbaro was able to walk again, until he developed laminitis. The devastating condition would prove to be the only competitor that Barbaro could not best.

Pet Memorial Program

Hand in handThe human-animal bond is one of the strongest bonds that exists. Our animals sustain us in so many ways. They provide companionship, protection, and devotion while accepting and returning our love unconditionally.

If you've ever lost an animal that you love, you know that the loss is real and the grief can be overwhelming. Commemorate a beloved animal friend, or honor the loss of someone you love. It's a great way to remember those you love.
