Penn Vet’s Ryan Hospital Welcomes Three New Clinicians

[August 25, 2015; Philadelphia, PA] – The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine (Penn Vet) announces the appointment of Brady Beale, VMD, as Staff Ophthalmologist, Elaine Holt, DVM, as Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology, and Michael Mison, DVM, as Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery.

“I am delighted that Brady, Elaine, and Michael are joining the Ryan Hospital team,” said Bo Connell, Executive Director of Ryan Hospital. “They will fill key spots in our clinical services, allowing us to continue providing the highest level of expertise and care to our patients and clients.”

Ryan Hospital’s Clinical Studies interim department chair Daniel Morris, DVM, echoed the sentiment. “We are fortunate to have Brady, Elaine, and Michael come to Penn Vet. With their combined teaching experience and excellent clinical skills, they are a powerhouse group.”

Dr. Brady BealeDr. Brady Beale returns to Penn Vet to join the Ophthalmology team as a board-certified Staff Clinician. In 2002, Beale graduated summa cum laude from Penn Vet, where she served as President of the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association. After an internship at Penn Vet for small animal medicine and surgery, she completed a residency in comparative ophthalmology at North Carolina State University. Beale is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmology (ACVO). She is co-chairman of the ACVO public relations committee, working to promote projects such as the National Service Animal Event to provide free eye examinations. Beale has also interned at numerous animal care facilities, including the New England Aquarium and Baltimore Zoo. 

Dr. Elaine HoltDr. Elaine Holt also returns to Penn Vet, joining the faculty as a Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology. Holt received her veterinary degree with high honors from the University of Illinois in 1995. She completed a rotating internship at The Animal Medical Center in New York City and a residency in ophthalmology at University of California, Davis. She then joined Penn Vet as a lecturer and a staff veterinarian from 2000-2005. Holt returned to the UK, where she was a lecturer at the Royal Veterinary College in London, then moved into private specialty practice in Surrey in 2006. Since returning to the United States in 2014, she has been engaged in private practice in north/central New Jersey. Holt is board-certified by both the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists and the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists. 

Dr. Michael MisonDr. Michael Mison is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and will join Penn Vet’s faculty as a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery. He will spend the majority of his clinical time with the Comprehensive Cancer Care team in surgical oncology. Mison received his veterinary degree from the University of Florida in 1998 and completed a rotating internship and surgical residency at Michigan State University. He then joined the faculty of Washington State University in 2002, where he received the Carl Norden – Pfizer Distinguished Teacher Award as a second-year Assistant Professor in 2004. Mison subsequently left Washington State University for private specialty practice, and in 2007 founded Seattle Veterinary Specialists as a managing partner. He maintained his enthusiasm for teaching by serving as a locum tenens surgeon/instructor at several other veterinary schools during his time in private practice.
