Metropolitan Veterinary Associates and Emergency Services Joins Penn Vet Affiliates Program

By: Ashley Berke Date: Dec 13, 2016

Program recognizes excellence in the field and increases access to Penn Vet specialists

[December 13, 2016; Philadelphia, PA] – Metropolitan Veterinary Associates and Emergency Services (MVA) in Valley Forge, PA, is the first specialty veterinary practice to join the Penn Vet Affiliates network. Recognized for its clinical excellence, MVA will now have increased access to Penn Vet specialists, clinical trials, advanced equipment, and diagnostic laboratories.

As part of the partnership, Penn Vet’s Ryan Hospital will extend board-certified specialists to MVA, increasing access to Penn Vet care in a location that is closer to home for many clients. In addition, Penn Vet residents will have opportunities to gain educational and training opportunities in a private practice setting.

“We are honored to have been selected as the first multi-specialty hospital to be part of the Penn Vet Affiliates network,” said Dr. James F. Dougherty, co-founder of MVA and University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine graduate (V’80). “After successfully operating separate hospitals for many years, this collaboration will enable us both to deliver an enhanced client experience. Our combined resources give MVA an unparalleled opportunity to bring networking and continuing education events to the Philadelphia suburbs for local veterinarians.”

“The Penn Vet Affiliates program is a wonderful way for us to bring Ryan Hospital’s world-class services to the community,” said Dr. Marc Kraus, Outpatient Medical Director of Penn Vet’s Ryan Hospital. “By establishing a network of practices throughout the region, we can offer greater convenience and less commuting for our clients during stressful medical situations. We are proud to partner with Metropolitan Veterinary Associates and Emergency Services in this endeavor to make exceptional veterinary care more accessible.”

In order to become a Penn Vet Affiliate, practices must meet specific criteria regarding patient care, personnel, continuing education, and more.
