Swine Reproduction

Successful swine production begins with successful reproduction practices. Backed by integrated, multi-species research through the Reference Andrology Laboratory at New Bolton Center, Penn Vet's Swine Herd Health experts regularly provide on-location outreach services for all mammalian and avian species to troubleshoot reproductive issues and optimize breeding husbandry practices.

  • Outreach Activities

In addition to providing on-site auditing of stud processes and breeding techniques that contribute to reproductive challenges for all species - including porcine, bovine, equine, and avian - Penn Vet reproduction health experts provide a comprehensive suite of objective, validated technique services to assess critical reproduction samples.

  • Research

Led by Dr. Gary Althouse, the Reference Andrology Laboratory at New Bolton Center conducts integrated, multi-species research to develop practical strategies to mitigate reproductive challenges within herds.

In addition to offering supportive outreach services for producers or stud owners, the lab provides complete testing of neat, cooled, and frozen-thawed semen to aid on-farm veterinarians in their differential diagnosis of individual, herd, or flock reproductive problems.
