The use of exercise to improve treatment for insulin-treated diabetic dogs

Feb 21, 2022

Description: Physical exercise can decrease blood glucose concentration. The FreeStyle Libre glucose monitoring system will help determine if exercise can improve glucose regulation in dogs with diabetes.

Requirements: For this free to the owner study, dogs with diabetes will be required to visit the hospital twice over an 8-day period and will have a free FreeStyle Libre glucose monitor placed. Owners will have to scan the glucose monitor every 8 hours at home and exercise the dog (play fetch or have one of us speed walk the dog) every day for 7 days, for 30 minutes.

Contact: For more information about participating in the study please contact us by emailing  vcic@vet.upenn.edu or calling 215-573-0302.

Institutional approval: POAP #625, IACUC #807211
