    Merit Scholarships

    Merit scholarships are awarded to students annually to ease the financial burden of veterinary school. The
    scholarships have different criteria and eligibility restrictions are described under each scholarship heading.

    Selected Penn Vet Merit Scholarships

    All scholarships require a cumulative veterinary school grade point average of at least a 3.0 and above.

    Roberta and Pursley Ruffilson Scholarship (Shelter Medicine)

    • Available to a second or third year student with a focus in Small Animal or Shelter Medicine.

    The Dr. Ginnie Lieblein V.M.D. Memorial Scholarship

    • Academic merit and financial need will also be considered; there are no state residency requirements, however, preference will be given to students from New Jersey or Vermont.

    Dr. J.E. Salsbury Academic Scholarship (Fourth Year)

    • Available to a Fourth Year Student with superior academic achievement who has shown
      initiative and leadership qualities throughout their veterinary career. Requires a grade point average of 3.5 and above.

    Donald E. Cross Scholarship (Large Animal)

    • Preference for U.S. citizen focusing on Large Animal Medicine.

    Arthur Glatfelter Scholarship (Equine or Large Animal)

    • Restricted to students pursuing primarily equine or large animal veterinary medicine.

    Sheldon Farber Scholarship (Need)

    • Student must have demonstrated extraordinary financial need and high academic merit. This scholarship requires a cumulative veterinary school grade point average of 3.5 and above.

    Albert Wagner, VMD Scholarship (Food Animal)

    • Pennsylvania resident with food animal interest.

    Dorothy G. Cooke Scholarship (Wildlife)

    • Strong interest/focus on treatment and care in avian or exotic medicine.

    Mildred G. & Vance G.S. Moyer Scholarship (Small Animal)

    • Available to a student with a focus on small animal medicine.

    Dean’s Scholarship- Mitchell ( Small Animal)

    • Preference for feline focus/ shelter medicine.

    Charles and Violet Moore Scholarship (Class of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 – Other)

    • Must demonstrate people skills and strong integrity. Financial Need is considered.

    Walter Montgomery Scholarship (PA Resident)

    • Preference given to students from Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.

    Mehetibal Scholarship (Class of 2019)

    • Available to a third year female student with demonstrated extraordinary financial need and high academic merit. GPA must be 3.5 or higher.

    Liza Hammond Scholarship (Class of 2020)

    • Available to a Second Year Student.

    Brett Cooper Memorial Scholarship (Class of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021)

    • For a student who is overcoming or has overcome some type of adversity and is pursuing a career in the service and/or care of animals.

    Mankey Scholarship (Class of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 – PA Resident)

    • Scholarship criteria: Student must be a Pennsylvania resident.

    Helen Grossman Scholarship (Class of 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021)

    • This scholarship requires a cumulative veterinary school grade point average of 3.0 and above.

    Paying for Your Education

    All students, whether recently admitted or currently enrolled, should create a workable budget for tuition and educational fees, as well as living expenses and other costs incurred during their time as students.
