Alumni

Since the first class of 10 men graduated in 1887, over 6,000 veterinarians have graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine with a Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris degree, or “VMD.” Penn Vet also considers the hundreds of clinicians who have trained as residents, interns, post-doctorates, and fellows alongside VMDs as alumni. Today, the school’s alumni are working across the nation and around the world to improve the health and welfare of animals and humans.

About The Book of Bob: The Story of Robert Marshak

The Book of Bob: The Story of Robert Marshak celebrates the extraordinary life and enduring legacy of Robert Marshak, the ninth dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine, whose visionary leadership transformed the School into a world-renowned institution.

The biography is the collective work of 16 contributors, including Dean Emeritus Alan Kelly, who passed away before the book’s publication, Dean Emeritus Joan C. Hendricks, and Penn Vet faculty members, colleagues, family, and friends. Together, they paint a deeply personal portrait of a compassionate, generous, and inspiring leader who touched countless lives before his passing in 2020 at the age of 97.

In the book’s foreword, Penn Vet Dean Andrew M. Hoffman captures the profound impact of Marshak’s legacy:
