About This Event:

One year ago, the AVMA and the AAVMC announced the formation of the Commission for a Diverse, Equitable, and Inclusive Veterinary Profession to lead “a comprehensive effort to enhance DEI in the profession.” But as commissions go, resulting recommendations can be a protracted exercise. If you are a soon-to-be underrepresented minority (URM) veterinarian - ready to launch your career - who do you turn to for guidance in navigating the now? Say for instance, confronting unconscious bias as a clinician in the exam room? Or addressing microaggressions in the work environment?

Join us to hear from three alumna on their personal experiences on mitigating unconscious bias in the workplace; hear their perspectives on creating equitable environments; the value that URM veterinarians bring to the table; identifying mentors and allies; and what you can do now to prepare yourself for entry into the veterinary profession.

This event will be moderated by Office for Students’ Career Counselor Caryn Stivelman, C’90, Ged’97, G’04 (MBE, MSEd) who will lead an engaging conversation with Penn Vet Alumni guest panelists, and answer student questions during the session.

Featured Alumni panelists for the event include:

  • Marisa Brunetti, V’10 | Chief Medical Officer, Independent Vets, Philadelphia, PA
  • Catrina King, V’08, GR’12 (VMD-PhD), DACLAM | Attending Veterinarian, Noble Life Sciences, Woodbine, MD

Powered by Penn Vet’s Bellwether Sessions virtual event series.
