
Louise L. Southwood, PhD, DACVS, DACVECC
Dr. Southwood graduated from the University of Sydney in 1993 and completed a locum at Hagley Equine Hospital in Hagley, Tasmania. After completion of a Large Animal Internship at Washington State University (1994/1995), she pursued a Large Animal Surgery Residency at Colorado State University (1995–1998) followed by a PhD (1999–2002). She became board certified in Large Animal Surgery in 2000 and Large Animal Emergency and Critical Care in 2005. She is currently a Clinical Educator Professor of Large Animal Emergency and Critical Care at New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania. Her clinical and research interests are in equine emergency surgery particularly colic and gastrointestinal disease.
