Dr. Mandell obtained her VMD from University of Pennsylvania in 1993. She then completed a rotating internship and then Emergency and Critical Care residency, also at PennVet. She is board certified in Emergency and Critical Care. She worked in a private practice referral hospital in Maryland before returnigng to Penn Vet in 2001. She is currently a full Professor in Emergency and Critical Care. Her interests include first aid for pet owners and she is currently performing a systematic review of first aid for pet owners for the RECOVER initiative with Dr. Vince Thawley. She is the National American Red Cross Pet Care Advisor. Dr. Mandell’s other interests also include ocular emergencies and respiratory distress in cats. She has written book chapters on Ocular Emergencies, Acute liver failure, and other topics in ECC.
