Powell Laboratory

About
At the Powell Laboratory, we are dedicated to conducting innovative research about companion animal behavior, welfare, and human-animal relationships. We use a One Health/One Welfare framework, often partnering with community organizations, to study the experiences of diverse animal and human populations. Our goal is to produce robust scientific findings that translate to meaningful, real-world impacts to improve the lives of companion animals and the people who care for them.
Our Research
The number of people that own companion animals is growing in many countries around the world while, at the same time, animals are filling increasingly important roles within our lives. We are dedicated to understanding how human-animal interactions impact both animal and human well-being while considering the broader socioeconomic and cultural environments in which they exist. Our lab strives to produce translatable knowledge to maximize the human-animal bond and its ability to promote the well-being of animals and people.
