1980s

F. Joshua Dein, V’80, received the 2022 Emeritus Award from the Wildlife Disease Association.

1990s

Michelle Hawkins, V’97, was recently awarded the 2023 T.J. Lafeber Avian Practitioner of the Year Award, presented to an outstanding practitioner who is advancing the quality of health care for companion birds. Award recipients are selected by an independent committee of members from the Association of Avian Veterinarians.

Douglas Thamm, V’95, received the Alan Kelly International Award of the 2023 International Canine Health Awards.

2000s

Alex Hamberg, V’03, was appointed state veterinarian in Pennsylvania.

Erika Krick, V’02, was recognized as a member of the 2023 Veterinary Heroes for Oncology by dvm360®.

Emily Singler, V’05, wrote Pregnancy and Postpartum Considerations for the Veterinary Team, a comprehensive resource on pregnancy and postpartum topics for veterinary professionals.

2010s

Erin Luley, V’14, was appointed assistant state veterinarian in Pennsylvania.

Colin McDermott, V’11, received the 2022–2023 Veterinary Clinical Teaching Award at CityU Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences in Hong Kong. The Veterinary Clinical Teaching Award acknowledges academic faculty with outstanding clinical teaching performance and promotes best teaching practices in the department.

2020s

Souci Louis, V’20, and Greg Sousa, GR’20, V’23, began fellowships at the CDC in Epidemic Intelligence Service and Laboratory Leadership Service, respectively.

1960s

Arthur Bickford, V’60, passed away on July 29, 2023. Renowned in his field, Dr. Bickford was recognized with the American Association of Avian Pathologists’ Hall of Honor. He served in faculty positions at Purdue University, the University of Missouri, Columbia, and the University of California, Davis. He also served as manager and associate director of the Turlock branch of the California Animal Health and Food Safety Laboratory, where an avian residency program was endowed and named for him.
