The Penn Vet Class of 2023 celebrated their Commencement on Monday, May 15, 2023 at 2:30 PM (EST).

The Ceremony was held in the Zellerbach Theatre of the Annenberg Center. Additional details about the University’s Commencement can be found on their Commencement page.

2023 Commencement Speaker

Dr. Justine Lee, DACVECC, DABTDr. Justine Lee, DACVECC, DABT

Dr. Lee is the Founder and Director of Medicine at VETgirl. VETgirl is the #1 online veterinary continuing education (CE) platform that provides RACE-approved CE, and hosts one of the most popular and unique veterinary conferences annually. VETgirl was inspired by Dr. Lee’s personal experience in aspiring to keep up with veterinary knowledge while she was studying for her ECC boards at Penn back in 2003. Her business partner and co-founder was a Penn Vet student while she was an ECC resident at Penn, Dr. Garret Pachtinger, VMD.  

Dr. Lee is a board-certified veterinary specialist in both emergency critical care and toxicology. She attended veterinary school at Cornell University and completed an internship at Angell (Boston, MA) and fellowship and residency in emergency and critical care at Penn Vet. Previously, Dr. Lee was on faculty at the University of Minnesota (2003-2008) and head of an animal poison control center (2008-2013). Dr. Lee is widely published in the peer-reviewed literature and published two humorous pet reference books entitled ‘It’s a Dog’s Life… But It’s Your Carpet’ and ‘It’s a Cat’s World… You Just Live In It’. She also received the Speaker of the Year award for the North American Veterinary Conference three times. Dr. Lee is a highly sought after media host and speaker, including features on television and radio such as Nat Geo Animal ER, Rachael Ray, NBC Weekend Today, and several other veterinary media publications.
