Penn Vet Cancer Center Announces 2023 Pilot Research Program Awardees

Congratulations to the 2023 Penn Vet Cancer Center Pilot Research Program awardees:

Drs. Matthew J. Atherton and Jennifer Lenz: Developing anti-CCR4 CAR T cells to target Tregs in canine solid cancers.

Drs. Erin Gibson and Maureen Griffin: Randomized double-blinded evaluation of patient outcomes in dogs with hepatocellular carcinoma receiving embolization or chemoembolization.

Dr. Amy Durham, Penn VetAmy C. Durham, MS, VMD, DACVP, received the 2023 Presidential Award from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) at its annual meeting. The award was bestowed upon Dr. Durham in recognition of her exceptional service and dedication to the College and its members through her role as chief operations officer (COO) on the board of directors. In the presentation of the award, ACVP President Jerry Ritchey described the role of COO as the board’s most vital position, noting that Dr. Durham has set an extremely high bar as the first holder of this position.

 


Dr. Kenneth Drobatz Receives Gary L. Stamp Award from VECCS

Dr. Kenneth Drobatz, Penn VetKenneth J. Drobatz, MSCE, DVM, DACVIM, DACVECC, is the 2023 recipient of the Gary L. Stamp Award. This award is given to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional commitment and dedication to fostering the relationship between the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS) and the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care (ACVECC).

 

 


Dr. Jorge Alvarez Invited to Lecture at the Americas School of Neuroimmunology

Dr. Jorge Alvarez, Penn Vet

Jorge I. Alvarez, BSc, PhD, has been invited as a lecturer at the fifth Americas School of Neuroimmunology (ANSI), which will take place at the University of Toronto, July 22—25, 2024. He has been invited to lecture on the topic of the neuroimmunology of central nervous system (CNS) barriers.

ASNI is a regional school of the International Society of Neuroimmunology (ISNI) with a focus on educating trainees and investigators on various aspects of neuroimmunology. The target audience comes from North, Central, and South America. Approximately 200 trainees from across the neuroimmunology spectrum, or PIs wishing to retool their immunology expertise, are expected.
